my favorite hadith

I just wanted to share a hadith that's special to me. The Arabic version lives rent free in my mind like a poetry.

Strange are the ways of a believer, for there is good in every affair of his. If he experiences something joyful, he thanks Allah, and that is good for him. And if he faces hardship and is patient, that is good for him.
[Sahih Muslim 2999]

The hadith begins with the word “strange.” Not strange in a negative sense, but different from the usual way people respond to life. Most people feel good only when things go their way. And when things fall apart, everything else falls apart with it. But a believer looks at life from a different angle. Ease doesn’t make them forget Allah, and hardship doesn’t make them lose Him.

It's one of my favorites because it shows the benefit of the faithful. That the believer never truly loses.

When life gives, we rise in gratitude. When life tests, we grow through patience.

And both are counted.
Both are rewarded.
Both are good.

It reminds me that Allah has built our faith in a way that is deeply protective. Even when the world is unpredictable, the believer's heart has a map that directs us somewhere. We're never lost.
